It has already become a tradition that the programme of the Aviation Fair includes scenes of a spectacular open-air show which takes place on the ground and in the air. One of the scenes of this year's programme will commemorate the events of the turn of the 1960s and 1970s in Vietnam. "It is an extraordinary performance, as other events show mainly fights from the period of the World Wars, but this conflict, which lasted for 10 years, is not commemorated on other occasions. Two years ago, we prepared a similar scene from the Asian conflict for the first time during the Aviation Fair. It was a huge success with spectators and foreign guests, therefore we decided to include it also in this year’s programme, half a century after the outbreak of the conflict." says Ladislav Minařík from the Aviation Fair organizing team.
This unique scene will present American and Vietnamese soldiers in historical costumes and also ground forces, while the air will be taken over by helicopters and propeller aircrafts. There will be two helicopters: the legendary Bell 47G with its typical bubble cockpit and the equally famous attack helicopter Bell AH-1S Cobra. The aircraft North American T-28 Trojan will participate in the battle as well and the battlefield will be investigated by the observation aircraft Cessna O-2A.
"The spectators find the Cessna attractive thanks to its atypical construction with one engine in the nose of the aircraft and the second one with a pusher propeller in the rear of the fuselage. The participating aircraft did not directly take part in the combats in Vietnam, but in the 1970s it was put in service on American air bases in the Federal Republic of Germany." says Jan Rudzinskyj from the Aviation Fair organizing team.
